It seems like everyone is letting a little bit of Minimalism into their lives nowadays. Some to a larger extent than others whether that’s decluttering their closets, trading their McMansions for tiny homes, or clutching their knickknacks and asking themselves if it sparks them joy. Living with less has been sold as the antidote to anxiety and stress that surrounds so many of our lives.
But, are we over it?

Yes and no. It depends on what Minimalism means to you.
If Minimalism is simply an aesthetic for you and you’re more concerned with taking showing off pretty pictures of your stark, white kitchen and less concerned with actually economizing your possessions, then yes. Minimalism is just a fad.
Just like any other aesthetic, the Minimalism trend as a look has pretty much run its course for now until it comes into fashion again.
But if Minimalism to you is about releasing anxiety, guilt, and stress that comes from owning too much, thinking about too much, holding onto relationships that don’t do you any good, then that will never go out of style.
It’s something that has been practiced for thousands of years without the label of “Minimalism”. In more recent history it has been revived as a response to the rampant consumerism that has overcome our modern day society, but it’s not a new concept.
Experiencing simplicity, authenticity, and inner peace through the simplification of your entire life can never be a trend.
At least that’s my take on it. What do you think? Is Minimalism just a fad?
